Improving the lives of older people
and their carers by transforming the
communities in which they live and work"

Velile’s Story from St Antonine Home

pic6Dear Rayne and Magda

I am expressing my sincere gratitude for the hand crated pure silver Eden Association Pendant. It is really encouraging.

To be in the course of Eden alternative was a best experience for me, by now I understand myself, I know my dreams. I understand very well about an older person. So to be a member of Eden Alternative is really amazing.

I will continue with implementing Eden alternative as it is a process.

With lots of love

BREIF REPORT OF HOW I IMPLEMENT EDEN ALTERNATIVE

FIRSTLY I BECOME THE FRIEND OF OUR RESIDENTS, KNOWING AND UNDERSTAND THEM.

CREATING FRIENDSHP

Friendship

Granny M is living with dementia. Sometimes early in the morning she goes by the gate shouting out and crying saying she want her children they had stolen them. Now she I is telling me that his husband has passed on and now she is trying to raise her children.

After creating friendship with her it has been easy to ask for help. Funny enough she can go to the kitchen now and say today what I can do. She is my friend, although some time she cannot realise me. We are still in the process of making change in our home. Residents are more flexible now they can help.

They dish for chicken and ducks. You can see that they own these chickens and ducks. Others can help in preparation of breakfast, feeding pigs, in plumbing, in laundry as you can see in the picture. They can sweep the floor while I mop. They do all these thing freely and out of love.
Now we carried mealies from our garden, everyone here feels special.
Eden alternative has been influenced everyone here. Everyone is interested in implementing it. Yes it is not a one day job but gradually our home will be a really home. The lady dancing with security is living with dementia but even though she can dance.
